Getting Involved as a User
If you're as excited about Phonon as the developers are, you're probably wondering how you can get involved and help out. There are several ways you can do this, including:
- report audio hardware:
Download the soundcardinfo.sh script and run it in a Konsole on your machine. Attach the output to a wishlist bug report on bugs.kde.org so that it can be integrated into the audio hardware database of Phonon.
-
quality assurance: as Phonon gets put together, we will need people to run it on their systems and test as many backend/hardware/non-Phonon applications setups as possible. Problems and bugs encountered need to be reported back to the developers.
-
documentation: as a new KDE component, Phonon will be in need of documentation. This is a task that anyone who can write coherently can undertake.
-
promotion: if you'd like to help get the word out about KDE and Phonon, there is much in the way of promotional work that can be done.
-
appreciation: it's amazing how far an encouraging word can go to keeping the spirits of the developers up when faced with particularly nasty bugs and great challenges. Dropping a note to the development email list would be a great way to show your support and appreciation. Beer, pizza, gadgets and other developer fuel are also welcome. ;)
